On February 20th, Saturn and Neptune meet at 0° Aries. This is not just another conjunction, as it is the opening of a new 36-year cycle, and it happens at one of the most sensitive points of the whole zodiac: its very first degree. Zero Aries can be seen as a raw life force; as the moment that something wants to exist, even before it knows what it will become.
The last time that Saturn met Neptune in Aries was on March 28, 1703 and the previous meeting took place in Capricorn on March, June and November 1989.
The contacts of Saturn and Neptune always have to do with reality and imagination and can ask deeper questions like: what is real, and what is only imagined?
Saturn’s energy is the one that can give form, limits, responsibility, time. Neptune’s energy dissolves, dreams, blurs boundaries, reaches for the invisible. When they come together, reality and ideal may collide and dreams can either collapse, or they can finally become tangible.
The sign of Aries has very much to do with the self, the ego, the “I”. So here, the energy can be directed towards the self, and the ending of illusions and fantasies that could have been serving us for years. It could symbolize the beginning of an inner cycle of maturity; a cycle where everyone, can be requested to assume their personal responsibility and transform their selves, in the name of collective progress. No more excuses or illusions and delusions, but a period to face reality and ourselves as they really are. As James Baldwin puts it: “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced.”
Also, as Mahatma Gandhi has said: “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Or the famous phrase of Leo Tolstoy: “Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” Additionally, Aries is not reflective; it acts without waiting for certainty. It is a sign which moves first and realizes later. So, this new cycle could also be about initiating with a vision, without the need of perfecting it. It can be like an invitation to act with courage and faith, even when the path ahead is unclear.
Therefore, it is very probable that this conjunction could mark the end of long confusion and the beginning of a new attempt to live truthfully and responsibly. Over the past cycle, many structures were built on illusion: promises without foundations, systems that looked solid but were hollow inside. Saturn with Neptune have the ability to expose this steadily. What cannot survive reality most probably will slowly fade away, and what is meaningful, but vague, might now be asked to take form.
Collectively, this energy also speaks about redefining leadership, identity, and purpose. Old models of authority could disappear, and new ones can be born through experience and not theoretical models. We may see the rise of pioneers who act from an inner belief rather than established rules. At the same time, Saturn can remind us that passion without discipline usually burns out, and that inspiration needs commitment to survive.
On a psychological level, this conjunction can feel like sadness and awakening at the same time. Many people may feel a quiet inner voice saying: “I can’t live like this anymore.” Aries brings honesty, which most times can be harsh and come out brutally. Neptune brings sensitivity and compassion and Saturn asks for maturity. Together, they can also invite us to take responsibility for our dreams, instead of waiting for someone else to save or validate them.
This cycle can be also about spiritual adulthood, where there is no more space for blind faith, but real embodied spirituality, where you live your values through action. Your boundaries can become sacred, and saying “no” could become an act of self-love and love in general, with saying “yes” becoming a conscious choice, not an act of weakness or deceit.
As this is the seed moment of the new Saturn-Neptune cycle, in the following years we will live the unfolding of this cycle and we will see it growing over time. Our choices will start to mature slowly and patiently, and our dreams will no longer be something put on hold, but will start becoming concrete, reality guided by our inner spark.
Summarizing the Saturn – Neptune conjunction in Aries, in one sentence I will use a saying from Rumi: “Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.”
