Understanding the Jupiter–Neptune Cycle

Approximately every 13 years, Jupiter and Neptune begin a new collective and spiritual cycle. This synodic cycle speaks to shared dreams, beliefs, spiritual movements, and cultural myths. When they conjuncted in Pisces in April 2022, a new seed was planted around collective ideals, artistic and spiritual expression, and how societies imagine unity, compassion, and the divine presence.

That Pisces conjunction was especially potent, as both Neptune and Jupiter rule Pisces. So, there were emphasized themes of healing, escapism, mysticism, idealism, and spiritual longing. It marked a time when collective dreams were both elevated and overwhelming—setting the tone for the years ahead.

Jupiter is the planet of faith, belief, expansion, luck and good fortune. On a positive note, he is also linked to philosophy, philanthropy and truth. However, since he is the planet of exaggeration, if he gives too much, this can lead to arrogance, wastefulness and overbearing and we may experience the negative side of the planet. Then, the Hubris – as was well known from the Ancient Greeks – occurs and nature seeks to reinstate balance.

Neptune’s symbolism is linked to dreams, the fantasy realm, romance, glamour but also the mystical. It’s also the planet of art, imagination, escapism and illusion. Nevertheless, he also rules chaos and collapse, instability, deception and betrayal.

Now that the first quarter square of this cycle is formed, the first critical turning point is about to manifest. This is the action phase, where the seed idea of the cycle starts to communicate itself, to be used and implemented. The square makes us take actual steps toward establishing the vision that began at the conjunction. It might challenge us by revealing what is working and what’s not, in order to guide us to move towards adjustment. Now is the period that fantasy and dreams must take form.

This phase can expose conflicts between emotional needs and ideological or spiritual ambition. It can represent a societal clarification of the ideals that were born in 2022. In Cancer and Aries, the tension could arise between protection vs initiation, security vs courage, and intuition vs impulse.

Societies may struggle with the rise or fall of spiritual or nationalistic movements, disillusionment with false hope or overidealistic visions, a push toward emotional protection, even as bold new ideologies emerge, and conflicts between personal freedoms (Aries) and collective caregiving (Cancer).

This square is likely to test the integrity of spiritual leaders, humanitarian causes, artistic trends, and movements that emerged post 2022. It may also reflect geopolitical tension around who protects whom—and at what emotional or ideological cost.

On a personal level, this square can be felt as an inner conflict between emotional safety and spiritual threat. The Jupiter–Neptune cycle activates our individual dream-making—how we imagine a meaningful life, and how we seek to surpass ordinary limitations.

In 2022, each of us received a kind of intuitive download about what we believe in or long for spiritually. Now, in 2025, we might be asked if we are acting based on that vision, if we are chasing an illusion and if there are any familial patterns on an emotional level that might are blocking our evolution.

Maybe the above questions will cause us some internal turmoil, confusion or emotional overwhelming as to whether we are chasing idealistic goals and fantasies or we are in a state of spiritual bypassing*. However, this can be a positive step towards our personal development, as this inner clarification can guide us to real emotional authenticity. By giving ourselves the chance to shed light onto the above issues, we can reconnect with our original vision of the 2022 seed moment and be aware of the false prophets and their manipulative ideas, either on a personal or political level.

This is the time to choose what truly nourishes our soul and not just our ego and let inner insight guide us without fear’s control. We should appreciate this influence and face it as a test of honesty towards ourselves and not just as the end of an untenable dream; for illusions can only keep us still, spiritually disoriented and emotionally empty.

* John Welwood, the prominent psychotherapist and author in the transpersonal-psychology field, coined the term “spiritual bypassing.” In his book, Toward a Psychology of Awakening, he defined spiritual bypassing as using “spiritual ideas and practices to sidestep personal, emotional ‘unfinished business,’ to shore up a shaky sense of self, or to belittle basic needs, feelings, and developmental tasks.” The goal of such practices, he claimed, was enlightenment.
